Meet Chong

Hi, there! My name is Chong (she/her). I am the founder of CMC Counseling and the sole clinician of this private practice.

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, practicing psychotherapy in Maryland and Virginia. I am also a Board Approved Clinical Supervisor, offering individual supervision to provisionally-licensed therapists in Maryland. As an online practice, I can provide services to clients residing anywhere in these two States. As a certified ecotherapist, I also provide in-person individual and group therapy to those who are interested in nature-based therapy sessions (limited locations in MD).

As a 1.5 generation immigrant from South Korea, my path of mental health career led me to start my private practice with a special calling to serve the Asian American community, where availability and accessibility to Asian American therapist are inadequate.

I have over fifteen years of experience in the mental health field since my graduate studies at Loyola University. Through continuous learning and discovering, I have come to direct my passion and focus to trauma work, especially developmental, relational, and intergenerational trauma.

In my clinical work, I am most drawn to helping adult clients navigate through their self-discovery and transitions in pivotal crossroads of life, all the while exploring and healing from their past wounds — challenges such as overcoming demands of education, venturing out into independent life, making sense of stages of relationships, exploring passions and career paths, preparing for and adjusting to parenthood, renewing focus as empty-nesters, and finding peace in retirement. I derive a deep sense of honor and meaningfulness in venturing into these new territories with you and being a witness to your growth.

I believe in a client-centered, trauma-informed, strength-based, restorative justice-oriented approach to therapy. I am dedicated to the practices of challenging and dismantling beliefs and values based on systems of oppression and colonization.

I am a human being in the process of growing, and I make my share of mistakes along the way. I strive to stay curious, humble, and receptive towards new knowledge, perspectives, and insight.

Having trust, authenticity, and transparency as pillars of a strong therapeutic relationship, I am committed to offering a safe presence and space where you can come to me about your concerns, disappointments, or questions about my intentions and effort to be actively anti-racist, socially inclusive, and affirming of all identities.
